“Where we love is home, home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” ― Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
Last week we welcomed Trevor Fuller, a geography professor from the State of New York. He and a fellow professor accompanied a group of eleven university students to rebuild with us in Puerto Rico. For Trevor, the trip had a very personal significance. As a child, Trevor spent several years of his life growing up in Guaynabo and felt compelled to give back to a community which had once been his home.
The team of both staff and students were enthusiastic and determined, and in total spent time working on five homes in Guaynabo – completing three of them in just one week! As they headed back to New York, Trevor said, “I loved meeting the NECHAMA staff and it was awesome to get to know the students in a way that you can never know them on campus. They impressed me so much…the work ethic of these young people really impressed me and it felt good to work hard together.”
