Over the weekend, the NECHAMA team began making their way north along the Outer Banks of NC assessing the hurricane damage to see how we can best be of assistance. They surveyed damage in Beaufort and Emerald Isle ahead of making their way to Ocracoke today on one of the first ferries back into the region.
We need your financial support now to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Hurricane Dorian made a direct landfall on the barrier islands as a Category 1 storm. There are reports of 6-7′ storm surges that flooded the area along with the 90+ mph winds and drenching rains.
Our initial assessments will inform us of ongoing needs and communities that would benefit from our support. Once those assessments are done, and it is safe to do so, we hope to open up a full program and bring in volunteers.
