Alongside our friends from IOCC, our Dorian Assessment Team began work today on Ocracoke Island. We are coordinating with Ocracoke community organizers who have been gathering information from people in need of assistance and handing out supplies from the Ocracoke Fire Station.
The outpouring of local efforts and support from neighboring communities is inspiring. We’ve met so many hospitable folks who have been showing up daily to help get the people of Ocracoke back on their feet. Despite the logistics of a 2 hour ferry ride each way, they continue to show up for their neighbors. As one man said, “they were there for us during Hurricane Florence, it’s the least we can do.”
