The NECHAMA staff extends a happy Passover to all those in our community who celebrate. The story of leaving exile and traveling to a place of hope resonates deeply with our mission. We are excited to share the first video of our Passover video series, “From Narrow Places to Open Space,” featuring NECHAMA founder Steve Lear. This theme draws a direct line between the Haggadah, moving from Mitzrayim (the translation of Egypt, which means “narrow place” in Hebrew) to freedom and the work we do every day. Click the thumbnail below to play the video! To see the full series, make sure you’re following us on Instagram and/or Facebook. We hope you enjoy!

We also want to remind you about our 2026 NECHAMA Haggadah SupplementFrom Displacement to Rebuilding the World. Whether you are hosting a Seder or simply looking for inspiration, this guide offers powerful reflections on the journey from disaster to recovery. We invite you to download a copy to see how the spirit of “rebuilding the world” connects us all!

Lastly, we are honored to host a Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) commemoration alongside the Henderson County Social Justice Network. This webinar will provide a platform to uplift survivor voices and inspire future generations to stand against hatred and injustice.

Dr. Donald Sloan, the son of a Holocaust survivor who fled Germany as a teenager, will share his father’s powerful story of survival and resilience. Now living in Western North Carolina, Dr. Sloan continues to educate and inspire, and we are honored to host him for this meaningful event.

The program will also feature remarks and prayers from clergy and partner organizations representing communities across Western North Carolina and beyond.

Date: Tuesday, April 14, 2026
Time: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. (ET)
