2024 Hurricane Francine

Hurricane Francine Relief

On September 11, 2024, Hurricane Francine hit southeast Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane and quickly downgraded to a Category 1 as it traveled north into Mississippi. Francine’s 100+ mph winds, storm surges greater than 4 feet, and 8+ inches of rainfall damaged hundreds of homes and left 450,000 people without power. NECHAMA immediately sprung into action, utilizing our strong Louisiana connections to maximize our impact. From September 13-23, we accomplished the following:

  • Working with World Central Kitchen, Ground Force Humanitarian Relief and Culture Aid NOLA, we delivered 1400 emergency meals to those affected by the storm.
  • Together with Rebuilding Together New Orleans and OU Relief Missions, we spent two days removing debris and mucking/gutting a home in Terrebonne Parish.
  • We also did debris removal in a home in Orleans Parish, and gutted a home in Jefferson Parish.

Over the course of our deployment, NECHAMA utilized 28 volunteers for 229 hours of service, valued at over $7,500, per widely accepted volunteer metrics.

We’re extremely grateful for our non-profit partners and to be part of such a robust Louisiana disaster relief network!
