We are delighted with our partnership with The State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY)! SUNY and CUNY are made up of universities, colleges, and community and technical colleges across the state. Thousands of students from SUNY and CUNY applied to join our project and a total of 300 students were selected to join us over the summer.

On June 17th we met our first group of 60 students, and yesterday we welcomed our 3rd group of 60. They’re working on homes in and around Loiza, Bayamon, and Guaynabo, primarily clearing out damaged homes, repairing roofs, and rebuilding roofs of homes damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The students were selected by SUNY & CUNY after a rigorous application process. Their passion and commitment to the cause have been clearly reflected in the work carried out so far!!

“We are honored to be working with Governor Cuomo, the State of New York, UNICEF USA, and especially the SUNY and CUNY systems in this effort. This partnership will allow NECHAMA to scale up our efforts in Puerto Rico this summer and make much needed home repairs ahead of future storms.” -David Kaplan, NECHAMA Executive Director
